Activities

Independent living, Inc. sponsors a number of social and recreational activities for individuals with developmental disabilities. Our aim is to make sure each client is given opportunities to develop and enhance relationships with peers and others. We believe that in order to thrive, all persons need a sense of “community,” the feeling that they are connected to others, to their neighborhood, and to the society at large. Toward that end, our Men’s Group Home and Women’s Group Home host a weekly “Social,” which is a formal opportunity for the group home residents to invite friends and family from the community to visit and engage in planned activities, such as playing games, dancing, watching movies, etc. We also hold four formal gatherings for clients and staff annually: a Valentine’s Day dinner/dance, a “Summer Wave” swim party, a Halloween costume party, and a Christmas party.

Our Employment Training Center staff arranges 10-12 “field trips” each year for the ETC enrollees and other clients to attend if they desire. Past trips included visits to such destinations as plays, museums, festivals, concerts, and Branson area attractions.

We also offer opportunities for our clients to attend a week of summer camp in Little Rock each year as well as the Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities conference in Hot Springs.
